Fishing at Buell Lake!

We recently went fishing at Buell Lake for the day. It was a perfect summer day, the lake was beautiful! Everyone fished off of the dock and then made tee shirts under the pavilion to take home. They used fake rubber fish, painted them a solid color, then stamped the fish to their tee shirt to make the fish design! We'll be sure to go back, everyone really loved it at Buell Lake!
Here's david on the dock.

Rummage/Bake Sale 2008!

We held our annual Country View Rummage/Bake sale on June 5th and June 6th this year. It was another great success! We raised $386.38! The clients will now get to pick an activity of choice with the money they raised. This year, they will be able to pick from an array of events like concerts, rodeos, races and much more! They will even have some money left over to go out to dinner at a restaurant of choice. Thanks to all that helped out with the sale, we appreciated it!

Here's Ruth and Cherise checking out the bake sale!

Happenings in May!

Here are a few pictures of happenings around Country View lately! Another busy month!
We had a surprise baby shower for Kristal, a caregiver here at Country View who is due in June! She received many beautiful things and was very surprised! Here's a blanket that Carol made for her!

This month, we also went on the Flushing River View walk. It was a very nice nature walk, we even saw a large turtle on the river sunning itself on a rock!

We also experimented this month - making homemade ice cream! We used special bags and with a mixture of vanilla, ice, cream and sugar - voila! Ice cream! It was better than store bought!

And another successful year with the balloon launch! We'll update if anyone found our balloons and told us how far they went!

Just today, the residents went back to the For-Mar Nature Preserve. They made some plants to take home, made a owl out of CDs and foam and got to pet a snake! How exciting!

Cinco de Mayo!

May 5th is Cinco de Mayo, observed by Mexican communities in Latin America and Mexican-American communities in the United States in commemoration of the 1862 defeat of French troops at the Battle of Puebla. So we celebrated the Mexican way! We ordered out lunch at the new Mexican restaurant in downtown Flushing, the food was really good! The dining area was decorated for the fiesta and authentic Mexican music was playing to set the mood. Happy Cinco de Mayo!

March Madness!

Lots of things going on this month! First off, the clients received a new surprise - a new HD TV for the TV room in the activity center! They love watching movies on it!
We also had our annual Caribbean party. The food and entertainment were outstanding, the best yet! The activity room was transformed into a tropical getaway. We had a real hula dancer who got everyone laughing when she had the guys out there dancing the hula, grass skirts and all! The kids had fun playing games and dancing along too! It took away the winter blues!

Another fun activity was a visit from the Humaine Society. They brought in a kitty for everyone to play with. Sharon fell in love!

Next on to St. Patty's Day! The clients started off the celebration making and decorating Shamrock cookies then had a festive dinner, clover headbands and all!
And lastly, Easter! The activity room went from a tropical paradise to Easter in a blink of an eye!
